Temperature@lert Launches Vaccine Monitoring Initiative to Supply Remote Temperature Monitoring Systems to 49 Low Income Countries

Dec 23, 2015

Temperature@lert is pleased to announce the launch of its Vaccine Monitoring Initiative (VMI) to provide special access to our cellular-based temperature monitoring system for those 49 lower income and lower middle-income countries eligible for Gavi support [1]. The VMI seeks to ensure global vaccine safety by providing cutting edge technology to resource-challenged settings without existing access to such systems. For each temperature monitoring system that Temperature@lert sells it donates one to the Vaccine Monitoring Initiative. Eligible countries are provided systems with no equipment cost and only pay a small monthly fee for system communication, alerting, and reporting. The VMI has been established with support from the Clinton Health Access Initiative, Inc. (CHAI) and the Department for Foreign Affairs, Trade, and Development of Canada (DFATD).

The VMI will enable eligible countries to purchase Temperature@lert’s award-winning Cellular system (seen at right) at a significant price reduction:

  • The VMI will offer the system to eligible countries at a flat rate of $15/month. [2]

  • This is compared to the current retail price of $703 for equipment, and $30/month for communication fees.

Temperature@lert has deployed over 50,000 systems in 60 countries, and has recently achieved World Health Organization’s (WHO) Performance, Quality, and Safety (PQS) certification (PQS Code: E006/035). Our remote monitoring system is WHO, FDA, and CDC compliant and enables vaccine managers to receive accurate temperature data without human intervention, or error, and to take corrective action if the readings fall outside their target range. The system deploys in minutes, and enables users to set customized alert thresholds and receive alerts locally, as well as by phone, email, and text. It also automatically documents temperature readings for compliance and generates site-level reports for quality control. Among our deployments, we have over one hundred vaccine monitoring installations, where our system helps ensure international vaccine monitoring standards and helps ensure the vaccine cold chain.
